Rebecca Flynn
Director
I’m Rebecca Flynn, and a resident of Dixon, Illinois. While Idaho is not home to me, I have ties to Sandpoint through my sister-in-law, Justine, and niece and nephew, Cora and Ethan.
I’m a mom to two kids and stepmom to two more. I love to be outside, preferably in the woods or mountains. I’m very lucky to be surrounded by several state parks and forests, and spend as much time as possible in them with my family and our dog, Oswald. I also love to travel and pet sit around the country. I have a goal to step foot in all 50 states, and am currently halfway there.
As a former law enforcement officer and a person who has experienced first- and second-hand the struggles of mental health, I knew that more education and awareness is needed and that the stigma attached to mental illness needs to be removed. I’m grateful for the creation of the EMF to turn Ethan’s tragedy into a positive effort to make change in our communities and the lives of other families. In my current role as an administrator at a police academy, I ensure that our new police officers know Ethan’s story and understand the mental health issues they will come in contact with and incorporate mental health awareness and appropriate response into their training as much as possible.
